Thompson Estate and Eastern Suburbs Athletics (TEES) is a well-established club promoting athletics and cross country activities at all levels.  It has been in existence for over 108 years, being one of the few Brisbane athletic clubs that still exists in its original historical level athletes.  The club's impressive achievements are due to the hard work of the committee and the talented team of qualified coaches who run training sessions most days of the week.  Most of all, TEES owes much to the late Clem Jones, life member of Thompson Estate Athletics.

Enquire about our professional training that covers Junior, Senior and Master Development groups. We specialise in all aspects of Track & Field, and Cross Country.  The club's goals are to help individuals reach their athletic aspirations through structured training guidance by our experienced, committed and qualified coaches. We believe that our coaching can help individuals achieve their school athletic, little athletic and master's athletic state and national aspirations.

Over the years, TEES has developed young athletes who have risen to proudly represent Australia at international levels.  Some of these athletes include Jai Taurima, Bronwyn Thompson, Denise Robertson-Boyd and Gerrard Gosens, to name just a few.

Our main training facility is located by the bus stop on Stanley Rd in Carina.

Urgent! Guide Runner Needed PDF Print E-mail
Written by Site Admin

Are there any club members who would  be willing to be a guide runner for a visually impaired paralympic athlete.

Jonathan Bernard is 23 years old and has been competing as a visually impaired athlete since 2005. Jon represented Australia at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games making it to the semi-finals with the 6th fastest 100m time in the Commonwealth. Jon has also competed in Germany, Finland and the Netherlands. In 2008 he represented Australia in Beijing. Paul Pearce was his guide runner. He did a fantastic job.

Jon's sight has deteriorated in the last year and so it is imperative that he find a dedicated guide runner so that he will be able to compete in January in the World Championships in New Zealand and in London 2012.

Jon needs a 400m track athlete to pace him as a guide. This would require a person to train twice a week with Jon and be available for targetted meets and overseas events. This person would need to be able to run 400m around 48-49 seconds. Jon currently runs 52secs but has potential to run 50 or better with a guide. Appropriate renumeration will be offered through his manager.

Some of the Downunder team 2010 - setting out on the team bus

July has already produced some great results for the club after a busy weekend on the Gold Coast. 24 athletes went down to the Annual Downunder Meet accompanied by Tui and a number of parents. They brought home many medals and the meet was considered a big success. It is a good experience for our athletes to compete with athletes from other countries and many useful contacts were made. If anyone attending Downunder wants to write about their experiences there, they can email it to the above address and we’ll put it in the next newsletter.

While these athletes were all competing, not far away a number of club juniors took part in the Gold Coast Marathon Junior Dash events. In the 2km event with over 600 competitors Daniel Rolley was the first boy(6 minutes 53 seconds) and Katrina Robinson(7 minutes 13 seconds) was the first girl across the finish line. It was a hard start with a lot of pushing and shoving for half an hour before the race. Christabel Kingdon(8minutes10seconds) was 7th girl in her age category while her brother Jordan was first in the 5-6 year old category in a time of 9minutes and 3 seconds. In the 4km Junior Dash event Luke Kingdon came first in the 5-10 age division in a time of 15minutes and 15seconds, closely followed by teammate Callum Davies who was 2ndboy in that age division.
