Hi all,

******BANKS STREET RESERVE CROSS COUNTRY******. YES !!!

That's the place to be this Sunday morning, so get out of bed, bring the family, 1-2-4 & 6 km distances. It's all about getting ready for the up & coming QA XC series, testing your training gains & showing a fellow QA club that we support their event so they will support ours & give us some good competition in the XC series. You know you wanna be there!!! If you have a club uniform please wear it but if not that's ok until the 1st QA XC. Here's the link again.

21 March
Hi Sunday Club Runners,
This week we are extending the target to 66min for Club Run this Sunday. Please see the routes Jason has planned below. So far no one in the 6:30 or 7:00min group has indicated they will be there so we may not have anyone running at that pace this weekend. Most of that group have entered in the Twilight Run so the 10km will be a nice alternative at that 6:30 to 7min pace.
The weather was noticeably cooler last Sunday so now is a good time to start gradually increasing our distance. With consistent training we should reach 20 to 30km in June depending on your pace.
We depart from the clubhouse at Stanley Road at 6am Sunday morning
I look forward to seeing lots of 5 to 6min pace runners this week.

66 minute routes below ( I've put 6.30 and 7.00 in just in case)

In a nutshell - down Fursden rd to minnippi, up around the Lake to Wynnum rd, via Greystone st, along Wynnum Rd to the Bulimba ck cycle way ( for the faster groups) or turn past the Model aero club for the slower groups, back through Minnippi around the cycle way and various routes back to the club house.

The Annual General Meeting and Trophy Presentation night is next Monday 23 March at 6.30pm at the clubhouse. Everyone is welcome. RSVP here, if you haven't already, or to admin@thompsonestateathletics if you can come. Supper provided. Kevin's training is on before meeting if you want to go to that first.

Rosalie will be at Clubhouse this Thursday to help anyone wanting to purchase uniforms. You will need a single to represent the club at any QA event eg the cross country series.

Hi all,

After a great weekend for many of out TES athletes down Sydney we need to remember what got them there in the 1st place. Some people say that these individuals were born with talent, others say that they have an unusual amount of self drive & determination. These are quite often contributing factors but not the whole story, we live in a great climate with plenty of Parks & recreational areas provided by local councils & also the volunteers in our community eg. Parkrun,

many of the QA officials & anyone in sporting clubs giving their time freely. So please use these facilities & find your full potential.

I'm going to keep sharing this link with the hope we get plenty of members in attendance to kick off our cross country campaign for the XC season.

Well done to Samantha and Hannah for their efforts at the 400m races in The Australian Champs. They just missed out on making the finals. Hannah later raced in 4 X 400m relay for Queensland and helped the team win a silver medal.

Ellie about to win silver.

Congratulations to Ellie on winning a silver medal in the U14 1500m race. Congratulations also to Emily for competing in the same race and coming 15th in Australia!

Hi all,

Now I've cleaned the house from top to bottom - Grrrrrr!!! I can settle down to one of my most favourite pastimes, TES Minnippi Parkrun report. Today was a very special Parkrun as it was the last time that our TES member,Campbell Willis is Run Director & Event Director of Minnippi Parkrun. I know he's not keen to be ''Put on a Pedestal'' but if it were not for Campbell, (& Carmel) Minnippi Parkrun may never have existed. On behalf of everyone at TES I'd like to say THANKYOU for you forethought & determination to present us with such a fantastic & well run local event. Good cake too
smile emoticon

Todays total attendance was 158 with 21 TES runners, giving us 13.3% of total. The conditions were good although I did like the water/mud feature 2 weeks ago, its great if you wear dark coloured runners, white not so good !!

Pb today goes to the "One & Only'',* Michelle Kelly*. Great run Michelle.

Kerrie Schmidt also equalled her Pb, I don't normally mention anything other than a Pb but Kerrie really pushes every week.

I know we had a couple of runners there that weren't on the list, please remember barcodes as its great to be acknowledged.

I also received a notification that Ashgrove Rangers are putting on a Cross Country on 29th March for 1, 2, 4 & 6km. Chech the link below as I believe it is not at the normal venue.

http://qldathletics.org.au/…/Calendar-of-Events/banks-st-re…

They also have the Flying 4 tomorrow if your looking for a race. Kevin is also providing us with the Sunday long run for over14yo, leaving from the Clubhouse at 6am, be there by 5.40am for organizing, I will be at Brisbane Roadrunners on ''water table duties'' have a great weekend. Hi Sunday Runners,
As this week is an easy week we are only targeting 45min and Jason has kindly put together some runs for this Sunday for you to preview. Quite a number of you were not able to come last week or two weeks ago. Therefore it may be beneficial to extend your run up to 60mins before we hit the much longer runs starting next week with 66mins. Some of the more experienced runners could regard 45 to 60mins as easy run when we hold our easy run every third week. Regular easy training weeks are important as our bodies can’t tolerate overloading for many weeks on end without succumbing to injury.

So I will leave it up to you and your group how to extend your run to 60min if that is what you would like to do. Remember to control your pace as the hot weather is still with us and it won’t be long before you are running well beyond the hour.
I look forward to seeing you all and especially the return of the majority of our 6:30min+ runners this week. A large number of you have indicated that you would probably be more comfortable at a slower pace probably closer to 7 min. I agree that slowing down will be a help in keeping your run continuous.

I’ll be there to go through the runs on Sunday morning from 5:40 but please have a look at the courses Jason has plotted for us.

Sundays 45 min runs (approx) attached
5.00min pace

5.30 min pace
http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm…

6.00min pace
http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm…

If there is anyone intending running a 6.30 pace I suggest they do the 6 min course but dont loop the lake just go up the Eastern side to the carpark then turn around

Another great run by Callum. First he ran a PB to make the finals in the U17 800m at the Australian Champs, then did another sub 2 minute time to finish 7th in Australia in the final. He managed to find the energy to run in the U17 1500m heats later that day, and has made the final in that as well!

Hi all,

Had a great run with a group of TES runners from the clubhouse this morning. Kevin & I would love you (14yo & over) to come along next Sunday & join in. I believe Kevin is making the time running a little shorter next Sunday so great time to give it a go. He accommodates for a variation of speeds & paces.

Just remembered, there is a free exhibition of ''History of Cycling'' at the Queensland Museum. I believe they also have the Cadel Evans collection there & some other obscure bikes of yesteryear. I'm going today, may see you there

Have a great day, Steve Barraclough.

Hi Sunday Club Runners,
Jason has plotted some 60min continuous runs through a different route which I really like and will top off a hard weeks training. You can click on the links below for the specific pace group you like to run in to see the actual course.
It looks like being a very hot Sunday morning this week so please hydrate well and make sure you don’t set to hard a pace for yourself. 70% of MHR (maximum heart rate) is an ideal training pace and as guide if you takeyour typical Park Run pace and add 1minute per km then you should be fairly close to this ideal training pace.

I look forward to seeing you there including some athletes that have been away for a few weeks.

Hi all,

Sorry had to dash this morning to get to Aldi for Rumble roller, Massage ball, 85cm Skeleton (couldn't resist)..... hope you remembered !!

Welcome back to Jean-Paul & Serena, great to have you Snow Bunnies back.

Looks like we're on a role again with some great results today. In total there were 154 starters. I guessed there were 160 from the startline, did I win ? (can you have a podium finish for guessing?) We had 26 TES members running today which gave us 16.9% of total, this amount is generally consistent which shows the commitment from you, the members who know that challenging yourself weekly is much better for performance than just jogging away. We need a challenge to lift & improve our performance & to test our gains from training.

Many Pb's were set today, as follows.

Jack Lane.

Trevor Byrn.

Mia Forsingdal.

Kevin Christison.

Michelle Kelly.

Jeannette McGhee.

Quite a list as can be see, you all did exceptionately well. Please add Thompson Estate to your profile if not already. Easiest way is through the link in your last emailed result from Parkrun. It helps me when checking results.

Don't forget the Sunday distance roadrun tomorrow from the Clubhouse for 14yo & over. Be there at 5.40am for a 6am start.

Ashgrove Rangers also have their Flying 4 next Sunday if you after some competition. Cross Country races are starting very soon, keep an eye out........

12 TES athletes will be heading to Sydney next week to compete at the Australian Championships. Good luck to them and to Luke Harvey who has been selected in the Queensland School Sport Triathlon Team.

Hi there Superstars, the minute you ''lace up'' the runners your day automatically improves & all the trouble in the world take a break. After last weekends dress up we can all go back to club colours. Don't know when I'm gonna wear those purple boxers again

At last the dates for Ashgrove Rangers Flying 4 have been put up on their website for the rest of this year. please keep an eye on these dates throughout the year.

Cross Country season is just around the corner so keep an eye out for Emails from TES about these events & you can also visit the QA website for more info.

Hope to see you all at training tomorrow, Steve Barraclough

Hi all,

What a Fantastic day at Minnippi Parkrun today, so many runners there happy to join Carmel & Kayti celebrate their 50th Parkruns. Thanks to everyone, I know the girls appreciated the efforts of each & everyone of you. So much orange & purple dressup the local stores must have sold out !! Sorry about the ''Girl Power'' pyjama shorts, couldn't resist a bargain

The course also had a water feature, maybe we can make it a permanent feature !! Ok, down to business. 168 attended Minnippi Parkrun, 31 were TES members which gave us 18.45% of total attendance. We need to recognize the amazing efforts of the Minnippi Parkrun team & to the TES members & local community who regularly volunteer to keep this event going from week to week. Our community spirit is in a very good ''state of health''.

Pb was set today by Peter Forsingdal. I saw his watch & the big smile said it all

New TES members, please add Thompson Estate to your parkrun profile, easiest way is through any of your Parkrun results emails. Also if you are on Facebook you can go to the Thompson Estate website & use the Facebook link & ''like'' the page for more upto date info. I believe information for the Sunday runs has been posted there since they started ? Have a great weekend, Steve Barraclough.

This Sunday we are targeting 55 min continuous run. Please see the routes that Jason has plotted below which I appreciate very much. Big thanks to Jason.

5 min/ km group
http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm…

5:30 min/ km group ( turn around at Container st entrance to Bike way)
http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm…

6 min/ km group ( Turn approx where Bikeway leaves Stanton Rd)
http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm…

6:30 min/ km group ( turn at Gates to parklands eastern end of Model Aero club)
http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm…

If we have a group of athletes running slower than 6:30min/km then I would suggest you just stay down on the path around the lake instead of running up the hill to the aero club.
We are starting to get up in distance and we could be getting some hot Sundays in the next month or two so prepare well with good hydration before during and after your run. I also suggest wearing lighter coloured clothing to reflect the heat rather than darker clothes as they tend to absorb the heat. This will also make you more visible on roads. Keep an eye out for hazards and always think safety for you and your mates.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask me and I hope to see you there at 5:45 AM for a 6AM departure.

Cheers Kevin.

Hi all,

The rain has stopped (for now) & I daren't look at forecast but with the powers of positivity I would like to see everyone at training tomorrow. Some of you, like myself didn't get our weekly fix of Minnippi Parkrun last week so we have to make amends this weekend by coming along & helping to celebrate Carmel's 50th Parkrun. I believe it may also be Kayti's but I haven't had confirmation yet. If you haven't yet tried Minnippi how about making this weekend your 1st. You'll see so many faces you already know & also make more running friends. You can never have too many !!!

See You tomorrow, Steve Barraclough.

Tomorrow's Flying Four by Ashgrove Rangers is cancelled, but the Thompson Estate Sunday run is still on (watch this space).

Please note that following a pitch inspection conditions have been deemed a bit too slippery for the Flying Four tomorrow so we have cancelled. Next race will be a big one with the Lincoln Winch Memorial handicap edition on 15th March - hope to see you then!

Sunday Runners,
Whilst it looks like a run through Minnippi Parklands won't be possible this weekend I still hope we can get out for our Sunday run if we stick to high ground. We will still have to keep an eye on the weather tomorrow but I would propose we run a course from Stanley Road west to Ferguson Road, back along Old Cleveland Road, Narracott Street and back to Tees on Creek Road.

According to google maps that is a 6.2km loop. Please check out the attached map. As thetarget is 50min this week we would all need to extend the run a bit further than the 6.2km. Here are some suggestions but you can choose your own variations:
6:30min pace around the Clem Jones centre is a tick over 1.5km+ 6.2km
loop=7.7km
6:00min pace around the Clem Jones centre is a tick over 1.5km+ 6.2km
loop=7.7km (need approx500m)
5:30min pace Stanley Rd, Pembroke St, Old Clevland, Narracott and Creek Rd
is approx 3km+ 6.2km loop=9.3km
5:00min pace Stanley Rd, Mayfield Rd, Old Clevland, Narracott and Creek Rd
is approx 4km+ 6.2km loop=10.2km

I would not normally suggest a run through an area with so much traffic but I don't think we have much choice this week. Extra safety awareness is needed and always look for traffic before crossing an intersection and wear your runners with best tread to avoid slipping on slippery driveways etc.

Look out for your mates.

I hope to see you at Tees on Sunday morning from 5:40am for a 6am departure.

Cheers Kevin.

Hi all,

Due to storm warnings & the ugly looking cloud formations etc. on the BOM, I am Cancelling Training this evening for safety reasons. Hope to see most of you at Minnippi Parkrun on Saturday morning for Carmel Rogers 50th Parkrun. Steve Barraclough.

Hi all,

Hope your all having a great training week, time to start pushing that bit harder as the air temperature becomes more friendly. Last weekend at Minnippi Parkrun was a great success for our club as more local runners get the message that Thompson Estate is the no 1 running club in our area. While we're on the subject, last committee meeting we brought up the subject of club name acronym for use in everyday messages. The decision was made that we will use TES because that is what Qld Athletics uses when indicating which club we are in on results & participation lists (probably because they only have room for 3 letters)

Hope to see you all at training tomorrow, Steve Barraclough.

Ps, don't forget the mozzie spray

Lots to talk about this week, 1st of all the contribution we made as a Club to the local running community by supplying pacers to our Favourite event, Minnippi Parkrun. I've heart so many ''Feel good'' comments already by the pacers & also by the people we helped achieve their goals. Some of them went sub Pacer time & others just missed out but managed Pb's regardless. All our Pacers gave away their chance to run at their fastest for the more rewarding result of seeing others achieve theirs. None of this would be possible if not for the Event & Run Directors of Minnippi Parkrun, led this week very efficiently by Jenny Reedman & of course the much appreciated volunteers. Many thanks to everyone !!

As a club web had a great turnout with a staggering 38 members out of a total attendance of 188. This gave us a calculated 20.21%, One in 5 runners were TEA's members, WOW !!

Todays Superhuman Pb's as follows:-

Jean-Paul Churchward 18.03, What did you have for brekky !!

Charles McDonald, Must be the shoes mate.

Liam Wyatt, 2 weeks in a row, were gonna have to bank the corners for safety
smile emoticon

Mia Forsingdal, Exceptional running.

There were also some very near misses, these Pb's will fall very soon as the temperature continues to reduce to a more ''race friendly'' range.

A quick mention about this mornings TEA's multi pace distance runwhich was organized & skillfully planned by out Monday evening Coach, Kevin Christison. We had a very strong attendance & everyone enjoyed the company. Thanks for all your efforts Kevin. I can see the popularity climbing every week.

Hi all,

Just got home after a day on the track at QSAC with the Little A's athletes Regional Championships, back there again tomorrow. Great to see the kids giving it their all.

Had a pleasant surprise when I looked at the results today from Minnippi Parkrun. Not only the 26 TEA's members that also went out this morning & kickstarted their weekend, but the sheer number that turned up to do the run without it being a ''Special Event'' week, 216 total to be exact. Some would argue that its always a special event !!

Pb's today were carved out by the following TEA's running stars *

Jack Lane

Liam Wyatt

Mark Brittain

Great Work Guys, although we shouldn't call it ''Work'' when its so much fun

By the way, the results for the Ashgrove Rangers Flying 4 have now been up for a while, have a look at the numbers we are achieving, we can truly think of ourselves of being supportive of events put on by other Clubs.

Don''t forget that next week is ''Pacer Week'' proudly supported by TEA's so if you need a little help achieving that ''illusive'' lower number or just enjoying having someone else do the pacing for you, PLEASE have a go!!

Time to kick back now & wish you all a great weekend, Steve Barraclough
